Apprenticeship Program
The Carpenter-Millwright Apprenticeship program takes
applications every Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.
Applicants must have with them copies we can keep of their birth
certificate and high school diploma or GED certificate. Applicants are
given a letter of introduction and a list of union contractors.
Applicants must secure their first job themselves. After doing so the
applicant must bring to our office a letter of intent to hire from the
contractor who has hired him/her. At that time he/she will be sent for a
drug screening, which is done at the program's expense. Acceptance into
the program is contingent on passing this drug test. Pending
accomplishing this, the applicant purchases a work permit through the
Carpenters’ District Council, is registered with the Department of Labor
and placed in our program. The program is on-the-job-training as well as
classroom instruction. Apprentices are required to be in classes for one
five day session per quarter. That means that apprentices attend school
approximately every three months. Advancement through the program is
based on hours worked on the job and skill tasks accomplished in the
classroom. It takes 5600 on the job training hours and fifty-six skills
blocks to become a journeyman carpenter-millwright.
If you wish additional information you may contact the program at (816)

As apprentices go through the program, they learn a wide range of
skills. Some are considered basics and others are more technical. The
construction industry and the carpentry trade specifically, have become
more technical. Apprentices are taught to use the most modern tools and
equipment that are available to us. When an
apprentice is part of the program, he/she has the opportunity to learn a
skill while earning a paycheck.
The journeyman test is given every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8:00
AM. You must be at least twenty-two years of age, and
have four years experience actually working at the trade. You
must have a letter-of-intent-to-hire from a union contractor, stating
that they want you to take the test, and will have employment for you.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the office at

Yours truly,
Bob Hale
